Integration

DocuSign document management integration

If your organisation has already standardised on DocuSign, DocumentMS sends stored documents into it for signature and then files the completed envelope, its certificate of completion and the full signing history back against the original record as a new controlled version.

What this connection does

A stored document is sent into DocuSign for signature, and the completed envelope, its certificate of completion and the full signing history are filed back against the original record as a new version.

The choice is per workflow rather than global, so a high-value contract can route through DocuSign while an internal policy acknowledgement uses built-in signing. Organisations that have standardised on DocuSign do not have to migrate signature provider to adopt document management.

What you need on your side

Have these ready before you start; the configuration itself takes minutes.
  • A DocuSign account with API access on a plan that permits integration
  • An integration key and the associated authentication credentials
  • Agreement on which document types route through DocuSign rather than built-in signing

Setting it up

Test with one user and one document before rolling out. Connection events and permission changes appear in the audit trail.
  1. Step 1: Create the integration key

Generate an integration key in DocuSign admin and note the account identifier.

  2. Step 2: Connect

Enter the credentials in DocumentMS; they are stored encrypted rather than in configuration.

  3. Step 3: Map workflows

Choose which document types or workflow steps use DocuSign rather than built-in signing.

  4. Step 4: Verify

Send one document, complete it, and confirm the envelope and certificate file back as a new version.

Limits worth knowing before you rely on it

Stated up front rather than discovered later. Every integration has boundaries, and a directory that hides them just moves the discovery to a support ticket.
  • DocuSign envelope templates are managed in DocuSign, not in DocumentMS — the connector sends documents and retrieves results rather than authoring envelopes
  • Advanced DocuSign features such as payments and complex conditional recipient routing are configured on the DocuSign side
  • The connector requires DocuSign API access, which is included from the Business Pro plan upward. It is not available on Personal or Standard plans, so check your DocuSign tier before planning around this integration
We can set the connection up against a sandbox tenant on a demo call so you can see the behaviour rather than read about it.
